Enriching Desa Mas, Ubud A Commitment to Sustainability and Community Well-Being

Ubud, Bali – March 7, 2025 – Desa Mas, located just south of central Ubud, is renowned for its deep-rooted history in traditional Balinese wood carving. The village is home to skilled artisans who have preserved their craft for generations, making it a cultural hub that attracts visitors and art enthusiasts from around the world. Walking through the village, one can find numerous workshops and galleries showcasing intricate wood sculptures, religious figures, and contemporary artworks. The craftsmanship of Desa Mas is not only an important cultural asset but also a key contributor to the local economy, sustaining generations of artisans and their families.

In addition to its artistic heritage, Desa Mas is surrounded by lush greenery and rice fields, embodying the serene natural beauty that Ubud is famous for. However, like many parts of Bali, Desa Mas faces challenges related to deforestation and environmental sustainability due to urban development and increasing tourism. By selecting this culturally significant village for the tree-planting initiative, Arkamara Dijiwa Ubud and Dinas Lingkungan Hidup Kabupaten Gianyar aim to support both environmental conservation and the local community’s well-being.

During the event, a variety of locally grown tree species were planted in collaboration with community members, environmental organizations, and village authorities. These trees will play a vital role in capturing carbon emissions, while also offering shade, enriching local biodiversity, and supporting the area’s overall ecological harmony. The involvement of local community members promoted a sense of shared responsibility in caring for and preserving the newly planted trees, encouraging a strong spirit of collective environmental stewardship.

This tree-planting initiative is part of Arkamara Dijiwa Ubud’s larger corporate social responsibility (CSR) program, 1% for Smiles and Trees. Through this program, the resort pledges 1% of its revenue toward impactful social and environmental projects, including reforestation efforts, education programs, and community welfare initiatives. By integrating sustainability into its core values, Arkamara Dijiwa Ubud continues to lead by example in promoting responsible tourism and environmental conservation.

With the successful completion of this event, Arkamara Dijiwa Ubud and Dinas Lingkungan Hidup Kabupaten Gianyar remain committed to expanding sustainability efforts, reinforcing the importance of eco-conscious tourism, and fostering a greener, more sustainable Bali.
